Do you know what's nice? Picking up the phone to call vendors, locations, cast, and crew and having the kind of relationship with people that allows us to do what we do. That old saying, "it's who you know" is a common one when discussing trying to break into this god-forsaken industry, (and many other businesses) but once you've established a career, it's just as important to know you have folks to count on who, because of the history you have with one another, will jump through hoops to make your life easy when you need it the most. When we ramp up to make a project, it's a great thing to have friends and colleagues in various sectors of the business who can help you along the journey to get things done not only in a timely manner but a cost-effective one too. We're all in this together... it's nice to be nice and remember, people will want to help you when you treat them good and reach out once in a while just to say 'hello'... especially when ya don't need a darn thing at all! Trust me, that goes a really long way.

Yes, yes. It has a cascading effect as each person knows someone who knows someone and it just falls into place.

It is also great when people that have made it take there time to help others who can learn from your past experiences. Keep up the great work Shane.
Just to paraphrase Jules from Pulp Fiction a bit...correcto the F^%&! mundo!!
This business is all about relationships more than anything else. You novices, wannabies get this on amen. I've got directors hugging me over talks on food, domestics experiences. Wanna leave everlasting impressions....don't just wave your scripts and demo reels around....be a freaking human being in this inhumane world... This guy I met couple a decades ago was pitching some stuff to him, got bumping into times and times over always glad so see each other...is now appointed director of most prestigious FF abroad....say I wanna pull some strings there, who do I greet...you get my point, right?

A fantastic reminder, my friend! I think I'm going to send out a few "HELLO"s right now! THANK YOU!
Side Note: I was thinking to myself earlier today - one of the best things you can be is an attentive and responsive audience. It doesn't matter if you're listening to one person, to a room full of people, or the project they've made. It's not about whose attention you've got but what do you give your attention to. It's the first gift you can give any early collaborator. I think that's what that agenda-less "HELLO" provides - a window into listening and responding, an opportunity for an easy gift.

I always appreciate your posts. Being nice always matters and having a network of people who you care about and trust is so important. Really getting to know people is such an opportunity. It's also so much fun to work with people who have a common goal and similar drive for getting a job done and doing it well. I think this goes for life in general too. To genuinely care goes a long way. Thanks for starting out the long weekend on a positive note.

The relationships you build, 'good' or 'foul' last a lifetime. Just last week I had a question about a tv series that ran in the '80' that I'd worked on. I called the Showrunner/Writer, left a message, he called back in less than half an hour. Yeah he remembered me - we talked for about an hour like a couple of old Army buddies.
