Oliver Stone, Atom Egoyan, Martin McDonagh, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan top my list. While there are so many great filmmakers out there who have made incredible films, the ones I mentioned above are the most consistently good filmmakers that I know of.
J Lee Thompson, Quentin Tarantino, Roman Polanski, Pedro Almodovar. Off course the list of great directors is endless, but doing a DVD count of whats on my collectables shelf, these are the most mentioned. Ive at least three films of each named above.
Living it's Eastwood, less living it's Hitch. There are others who demonstrate unique abilities in 3D blocking, use of color and location attributes - but those are my favorites right now - subject to change.
One filmmaker I've been loving a lot as of late is Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth, Under the Skin). Anyone else a fan? He does some cool stuff and his movies look gorgeouuuuuus

I don't know if I have an absolute favorite BUT I must say there is not one movie that Brad Bird has made that I didn't like.
I love everyone on the lists given above...there is something about Mel Gibson though
Each one brings a different element to each of the movies they direct that it's hard to pick a favorite.
J J Abrams, Quentin Tarantino
David Lean. Bruce Beresford.
