Alcohol in Cinemas - Is The The Answer To Dropping Attendance?

New York has authorized alcohol to be served in ALL theatre auditoriums in the state. Is this what it will take to get people back into cinemas? Does this say more about the entertainment habits of the public, or the qualities of feature films available in cinemas?

All NY Cinemas Now Eligible To Serve Booze In Auditoriums, State Liquor Authority Rules
The New York State Liquor Authority has ruled that all movie theaters can apply for a liquor license. Joe Masher of NY NATO calls it a win.

We have 'Gold Class Cinemas' in Australia who position themselves on providing an event experience in their cinemas. The seating, catering and service all reflected in the product price, are provided to give the public a better cinema experient - and take the money they would usually spend before or after the movie at a restaurant...

The only issue is drinking during the movie is prone to instigating bathroom stops that interrupt the movie!

I think it's also indicative of the current demographic willing to go to movie theaters - and it's clear that it is adults and adult films.

I like this idea, and i think they are on the right track. However, i also agree with Kate. Too much and they'll be spending at least a quarter of their time running back and forth to the restrooms. So I think there should be a 3 drink limit. Just enough to catch a nice little buzz, but not so much to where it will take away from the viewing experience.

As a matter of fact I think they should start including a few extra features to help enhance the movie-goer's experience. For instance, they could place, vibrating, heated, swivel seats that can go all the way back. Also, i'm not sure if they could do this or not, but place an extra screen on the ceiling for people who choose to engage in a different sort of movie-going experience.

Maybe they could have video games on these seats with controls, and a little screen that extends from underneath each seat, and can remain stationary in front of each person, in case they get bored and want to play games. Then they could either play by themselves, or hit a numbered seat button on their arm rest and choose someone in the theater to play against. You know, just some different sort of things like that to introduce a new kind of theater to people for when they start flocking to theaters again.
