Distribution : Looking for distribution by David W. Keffer

Looking for distribution

We have an ultra low-budget feature horror film and are now seeking distribution. I would love to hear back from folks on who they have used regarding VOD placement for films in the $100K range. Any tips would be valuable. I have contacted several low-budget friendly folks but have been passed over due to "strength of cast." I know that's a thing and I get why it's important but we have a pretty decent movie that I think can sell. Just need some help. Appreciate you all!

Check out Distribber or Linda Nelson at IndieRights. Anyone but Adler & Associates.

@erik No one seems to like Adler on this site. Can I ask why you said what you did.

Erik A. Jacobson

@christopher - I'll be happy to change my opinion if you can find a single filmmaker who's had a financially rewarding experience with Adler. They are basically bulk or volume distributors, signing up as many gullible newbie filmmakers as they can to long-term contracts, then selling that package to others. There is no individual promotion of anyone's film. Stacey Parks of FilmSpecific.com said it best regarding Adler - "It should be a red flag anytime a distributor contacts you first about your film before even seeing it." Always ask for referrals from at least three producers, asking them "What's been your experience with ______ over the last 6 to 12 months?

David this is the American Film Market Exhibitor List. If you research each production company you will find invaluable contacts for your film

Definitely check out Indie Rights. If you're willing to market the hell out of your movie on social media and follow their marketing tips you should generate solid revenue. There's an insatiable appetite for horror movies.

Thanks for the help, all! Tony, we attended AFM last year and met with many of these distributors who ultimately passed due to "strength of cast" - meaning we don't have any big names so they won't mess with it. Eric, we considered Indie Rights and may ultimately use them. We have/will have a pretty good social media presence but have been waiting for the distribution agreement prior to really marketing it.

Are you interested in digital distribution on an Indian VOD platform. If yes let's connect...

I met with Indie Rights at the AFM 2017. They described themselves as distribution by filmmakers for filmmakers. In other words, you do all the work, you pay for all the marketing, and they take 20%. You submit your film to them just like everyone else, via their online form. How is this attractive to people? I know a lot of people have signed with them so genuinely curious.
