Sony Pictures Animation has decided not to move forward with Matt Braly's Thai-inspired animated film after two years of development, with the director sharing that the studio viewed it as "not commercial enough to produce." The project, co-written with Rebecca Sugar, was a personal story about a teen boy navigating chronic illness through the world of Thai spirits, and Braly recently posted concept art along with his disappointment that audiences likely won't get to see it. It's a reminder that even promising projects can stall at major studios based on commercial forecasts, though as we've seen with titles like K-pop Demon Hunters eventually landing at Netflix, a pass from one company doesn't always mean a story won't find a home elsewhere.

Sam Rivera Is Sony producing a similar project or releasing one shortly? This smells like a common studio tactic, where they option a property and keep it in development so that it won't compete with a similar project. Then it gets dropped when the first one is about to get to market.
