I'm putting this out to the masses for feedback. Serious replies only please.
I have a question... What do you do when you see a film at a mid-level festival that's so good you just know it should be picked up by a distributor, but the filmmaker is a newbie and doesn't have much knowledge of securing distribution? I've been following a particular film now for almost a year. It's played in more than 2-dozen festivals, but they've all been smaller, mid-level festivals. It's won Best Picture and Best Director in almost every festival it's been in, but the director and the producer are newcomers (based in Ohio) and have no strategies or leads for distribution. This film is special. It's has Fox Searchlight or Sony Pictures Classics written all over it. It needs to be out there for all to see. I've helped every way I can, but I too don't have much knowledge of distribution or how to land a distributor. So, any advice, thoughts, ideas, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking time to read this. Sorry I got a little wordy on you.
