So, I have written a screenplay for an indie that we have budgeted at about $300,000. We have an AMAZING cast (including two well known Soap Opera actors), a great director--and no money. Most of my experience is in theater which I am realizing is a different universe. Are there any good books or websites that might help me learn how to raise money for an indie? Or do any of you with more experience than I have any wise and sage advice? Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

$300,000 is ultra low, so I would be sure that an experienced line producer has gone over the budget. If it’s a real number, then well-known actors and a great director attached could make it a project that might interest investors. State tax credits can also be used to generate part of a budget. And like David Santo says, crowdfunding could raise another part.

Hi Daniel - producer Sara Elizabeth Timmins, whose raised over $15 million for her own projects, is hosting this class that starts on Monday that can give the roadmap... here's a link so you can see how the class is designed and register for it: https://www.stage32.com/classes/Raising-Money-and-Finding-Investors-Febr...

I love the old theatre method for this level of funding: Throw a party and invite potential investors. (ala 'The Producers'). I'd use that experience / showbiz as a start as it seems you might know that world. If the cast is viable reach out to smaller distributors for a deal pending financing. Financing likes a distribution deal.
