Overall, status quo I’m sorry to say. They didn’t blow me out of the water. Ellen DeGeneres did a good job, but this is a BIG SHOW, which means, at least for me, something unexpected and something coming out of left field. I think that’s why I’ve always enjoyed it when Billy Crystal was the host. Whoopi as well as Steve Martin (even with Alec Baldwin). The worst (sorry folks if I offend any of his fans), David Letterman too New York, not of the L.A. culture. The awards in the major categories hit the right notes – Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o (an incredible performance for one so young and gifted, but I have to admit I’m a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan) and of course, Cate Blanchett, one of the treasures of the profession. BEST ACTOR, that was a tough one. I think it really came down to Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. However, once McConaughey won the Golden Globe, everyone’s consciousness and direction changed towards him. Standout performance. Leonardo, gave a wonderful performance in “Wolf of Wall Street,” but don’t think the Academy is ready to give him an Oscar just yet. Seriously, I think they’re going to wait till he’s in his forties before he takes home the trophy. And on one final note. Really John Travolta. That was a major FAUX PAS. “Wickedly talented Adele Dazim.”It’s IDINA MENZEL, really one of the few dynamic artists to come along in recent years. You should have known better. Major flub. Maybe the recent facework and re-imagineering of the hair affected your delivery. Just saying – chuckle, chuckle, chuckle.
