Introduce Yourself : Anthony Jordan Rocheford by Anthony Jordan Rocheford

Anthony Jordan Rocheford

Hello Stage 32, my name is Anthony Rocheford. I work as an Extra/Background Actor through Central Casting and Extras Management. I have been doing it for only 8 months and I love it! I just became SAG eligible and I plan to join before the end of the year to take the next acting step. Is it worth joining SAG? I really am excited about joining SAG, but I have heard numerous people list off the pros and cons of joining SAG. I think the number one thing that scares me is the fear of not getting a lot of work, as opposed to currently being non-union, where I get work pretty regularly. If anybody could help me out that would be great! I don't know who to trust in this situation. I also don't know how to get an agent. If anybody could help me out with that, that would be great!

First, I'm certainly not the most qualified person to offer advice. As a studio exec and production company exec supervising studio movies, I've only worked with SAG actors (except for the occasional Taft-Hartley). Please take this advice with a grain of salt. Ask yourself... Do you have an agent? Is the agent telling you to join SAG in order to increase your marketability? Has your agent told you he/she feels like you would have gotten a job if only you were SAG? If so, then join SAG. If not, do you think you could build up your resume with non-union jobs? Would these non-union jobs strengthen your resume/credibility? Would they make you an even more marketable actor when you join SAG at a later date? Do you have some lead roles on your resume? If so, try to book some additional non-union leads to beef up your resume before joining SAG. Break a leg! Sounds like you're in great shape!!

Regina is so on point! I was a must join actress and now that our state has cancelled the film incentive it's hard finding work. I however was able to beef up my resume before joining with short films. The must join was a national commercial for a company as large as Disney, they however decided not to air the commercial, and here I am left with the sparse acting bag. Theater is good for keeping up with my skills in the mean time though, as well as taking acting classes. Where there is a will there's a way. Also you can literally sit on your eligibility for a little bit.

Shanette, you did what you had to do and were poised to do! Made the right decision at the time it had to be made. No regrets. Hopefully Disney or a similar national campaign will find you again and SOON!! Anthony is at such an important crossroads. Very hard to advise anyone making such a life-changing decision.

Thanks Regina! At times I need to remember just that!

We all do, Shanette!!
