Introduce Yourself : Composer saying Yo! by Andrew Barnabas

Composer saying Yo!

Hellooo!

I'm sheepish to admit that I joined Stage32 8 years ago and I think this is my first post since not long after! So a sea of folks to join with and a sea of folks to accept, some faces and names I recognise which be lovely.

Why now, well I finally I got round to it, also being perfectly honest it's the first real break I've had in that time, since lockdown started in March we - I'm one half of a composing duo - were fortunate enough to have constant work up until a week ago when we delivered our latest score. That in itself was a tad illuminating and nail biting since we recorded a string section remotely, all players recorded themselves, whilst they were all pros who could play, their technical ability to record themselves, well that varied wildly.

I'm a Brit, although I don't look it, have been composing for media since 1990, although I don't look it, started in games and now work in various media. To give a vertical slice, past 12 months, have scored 3 features - a rom-com, a drama and a feature doc and , 3 TV shows - comedy, quiz show and Xmas special, and a PS4 game for Sony America.

I record musicians for pretty much every gig be they scratch bands, orchestra's, jazz trios, random assortment of ethnic instruments etc. Have scored at a guess 50 games, 20 TV shows, 12 features

I'm looking to meet like minded folks, GSOH and get some projects scored.

Hence why I'm saying YO!

Cheers!

Hey, Andrew Barnabas! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage32. Nice to meet you! Man, that's an amazing body of work, sir! What would you say is your favorite genre of music? Or top three, because really, who can choose ;-)

I'd love for you to share your experience long-distance conducting on the Composing Lounge. I myself had to edit a few videos of virtual choirs, so I'd love to have tips on how to record them for later: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/composing

Also, we have members posting their work in Your Stage Lounge for feedback, including new music. Would you be willing to drop in and give some feedback? I know they'd appreciate your expertise! I'm there on Fridays, so I'll see you in there! https://www.stage32.com/lounge/promotion

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Hey Karen, what a lovely reply, most chuffed. What are my favourite 3 genres, oooh, I'd say probably Funk, Film Scores and Disco.

Sure I can give some feedback, my weekly routine is never the same (despite sharing child care of a 3yr old with my wife who's working crazy hours under lockdown!) but happy to do what I can.

I've seen my inbox filll with a lot more Stage32 emails of late, the options of virtual meetings with talent or folks looking for talent sound amazing, shows that S32 is well respected and well connected. They all seem to be tailored towards writers. May I propose a virtual meet where composers could chat / showcase to potential producers / prod. companies / directors. I've opened doors by meeting folks, offered to help them with their promo / trailer and have got the gig to score their project when funded, would that be of interest...?
