Introduce Yourself : Great to meet you, Stage32. by Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Great to meet you, Stage32.

I've written and produced four television shows. Published author. Now, writing full time as staff writer for major studio (yes paid.) Just finished first feature length script for first major film production. Have to keep much under wraps for now, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. I suppose its the best way however. Show, don't tell. So everyone will see soon enough. Best wishes to those trying to get to the next level. I'll be honest, its hard. It took me 11 years just to learn the craft of screenwriting, not to mention becoming mature enough to do this on an emotional, mental and even physical level. Discipline, is key. It was only recently last year around this time I took the risk and decided to go all in on my career. (Should've heard my wife's response at the time. lol )But if you hang in there, take your craft dead serious, it'll happen. Good to connect with you, Stage32. Hope to meet other creatives. Laters

Kerry Santo

Hi Marty, cheers for the inspiration, I am just starting out so it's good to read stuff like this

Rene Hinojosa

Thanks for sharing about your journey Marty and for your inspiring words! Looking forward to hearing more about your new film!

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Thanks, Kerry. For a long time I feared what people thought about my writing (even though I'd achieved so much and already had success) So I get how challenging it can be. What I would tell all those who are just getting into this form of writing, is to discipline yourself. I would say thats the most important step. Its a hell of a lot easier to edit shit writing then it is to edit a blank page. Expect to write crap. Don't try to be perfect, and never ever compare yourself to anyone else. Its also best to consider yourself a full fledged writer, RIGHT. NOW. Dont wait for someone to tell you thats what you are. Be it today and consider it your career. I didnt have a plan B. I was literally going to make this happen or die trying. Thats not conjecture nor fantasy. I found that until you do that, you may not see the outcome you're working towards. So just keep heading forward, and leave nothing in the tank. Best of luck to you.

Natalie Farst

Will do. Thanks Gareth.

Maribel C. Toure Aka Bella Toure

That's amazing Marty, congrats on all your accomplishment! I absolutely agree and I'm glad you got to prove it to yourself (...and your wife lol)

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Thank you to everyone. It was a risk but it was worth it.

Mimi Silcox

I get so excited and think "this is the one" then I get discouraged because what are the chances? Faith and luck and the right people?! Congratulations! For not giving up...

Linda Bradshaw-Rogers

Congrats Marty! You're an inspiration for all of us screenwriters.

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

@ Mimi ~ Believe it or not, you're exactly where you should be. I truly believe that if you arent afraid when you write, then you arent writing. Every line of dialogue, every scene, every take, every revision and creative decision is a risk. It means you give a shit. Keep going!

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Thanks Linda.

Evelien And Dorien Twins

Sounds like you're doing "quite" alright Marty! :) Very nice to see you in this community of creatives!

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

You're doing pretty good once you get there. Then it just gets harder. lol.

Larry Ross

Hi Marty Mac, LOL... That's just my sense of humor bro don't be offended.. I'm just a nobody that enjoys taking my digital camera and video interviewing folk about their works in helping in our Franklin County Missouri community. As I feel paying it forward is doing God's works here on Earth, so I upload the interviews to my channel's feed called Pay it Forward TV on You Tube. But I'm not computer smart enough to un-license the music files to lay under the interviews for scoring them or figure out how to get any income from the channels feed. But I started the channel thinking it would make some type of income and one day help me open a biker church / homeless shelter ministry. So let me know if you know anybody that would like to do P.I.F. interviews in their areas to have uploaded as a Pay it Forward TV reporter in another areas market?

Larry Ross

Here is my last interview to give you a better idea on what I unprofessionally try to do.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Vel206P5U

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

Thanks for thinking of me and sharing what you do, Larry. For sure, if I happen upon someone up your alley I know where to find you. Thanks again.

Dawson Howard

Welcome Marty and congrats on what you have achieved thus far

Debbie Richardson

Thanks for your honesty about the hard graft involved. I'm three years into it and still trying so you've encouraged me to keep going.

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

@ Debbie~ You have to be passionate about storytelling. Its a tough journey. I believe its tough for very good reasons however. In life you have to get your ass kicked a little to know what pain feels like, because it has so much to do with the characters you create. Your plot will come from the pain or fear your character lives with and their journey to face that fear. Thats just a small example. Ultimately though, its the passion to tell great stories you absolutely HAVE to have in order to make this a career for yourself. The passion will be your "why" for everything you do and endure as you work towards your desired place. It's totally worth it however. The "why" will move you past your haters, past the bill collectors and ultimately towards that big opportunity where you basically get to write your own paycheck. (This is what happened in my case) It's going to be a while before I get to see my picture on the big screen (honestly, IF it gets there) but the journey has had so many successful moments I keep going. Dont give up!

Debbie Richardson

thanks Marty

Malachi Hooper

Kristen Demaline

Welcome, Marty, and thanks for the reminder to stick with it no matter what! I've always wanted to do this for a living and have really committed myself to the work over the past couple of years. No telling what'll happen next, but I'm proud of myself for finally giving this a real shot. Congrats and best wishes for ongoing success!

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

@Malachi~ Drop me a message my friend.

Tamario "Marty" Dixon

@ Kristen~ Same to you. And you should be proud of yourself. There's a lot of people out there who never give them selves a shot. Best of luck to you.

Oh btw Marty, maybe you could read the story I wrote on my wall a while back titled "I Paul" and tell me if there is any talent there for making it into a book or screen play? But keep in mind I just obtained my GED or high school equivalence diploma a couple years ago. LOL

Mimi Silcox

Marty, I need to talk to you in private but don't know how to navigate this I would to lean more from you and tell you about my script!

Aleisha Brooks

How's it going T.D.? I'm taking your advice, putting in more discipline. I'm submitting to some writing fellowships and I have a TV spec, I wondered whether I could get you to read and give me some notes. I did one of Last Man on Earth. Have you seen the series?

Dawson Howard

Congrats TD and appreciate the advice and encouragement.

Lewis Ritter

If you are interested in reading some festival award winning spec scripts from Austin Film Festival, let me know.
