Introduce Yourself : Hello by Jack Middleton

Jack Middleton

Hello good people. Joined in order to learn how to write more colorful. I am an engineer and I have been interested in writing for many years. I decided to write a screenplay a few years ago based on an idea of mine that I thought would make a decent movie. I armed myself with a copy of "Screenwriter's bible" and started typing into Celtx. I managed to join a screenwriting group at the time, and I learned quite a bit. I'm still trying to be a more 'colorful' writer (writing reports and presentations in the engineering field is anything but colorful!), but I am learning more everyday. Thanks in advance for all the help I can get here.

Hey Jack welcome to S32...enjoy the journey.

Richard "RB" Botto

I think you'll be quite impressed, Jack. There are over 80,000 screenwriters on this site. A large number of them are extremely active!

Stephen Barber

Jack, welcome! There are a lot of talented people on this site, and with a little humility, they can teach you quite a bit. Best of luck with your coloring!

Richard "RB" Botto

A little humility and a bit of selflessness goes a long way, Stephen, I agree.

Jack Middleton

@Stephen- wow. Big community here. Thanks. @Richard. Agreed.

Steve Cleary

I'm a former engineer myself and find format and structure to be easiest, but adding color to dialogue and descriptions, though challenging at first, is the most fun! Here's a tip for adding color: when describing a character or location, just blend two contrasting but known ideas to paint a "colorful" image -- "He shakes hands with BARBARA (50), Doris Day on Adderall." or "He enters his daughters' room: Romper Room visited by the Tasmanian Devil."
