Hi Everyone

I hail from South West Hertfordshire, which is just north of London in England and as well as being the Official Editor for Stage 32, I run my own editing business, One Voice Literary Agency.

Since starting the business I have edited everything from full length novels, YA and children's picture books, business reports, articles, blogs, websites and more. Since joining Stage 32 I have edited a lot of screenplays as well as other genres of work for members of the site.

I have also recently taken on the role of Features Editor for a new online magazine, which centres on creativity and the arts. The magazine has received amazing feedback since its launch just before Christmas 2017 and we are about to publish our second issue.

For the last few years I have been working on the production of a beautiful poetry anthology called Poetic Wonders. The book includes my poetry, plus the poetry of five other very talented writers. I am just waiting for some illustrations to be finished and then I will be able to announce a publication date.

I am currently writing my own screenplay, it's called The Postcard and it is based on a true story about my Great Grandparents. I am really enjoying the process and it's coming together really well.

Hi Rosalind, look forward to updates on your poetry and wish you the best with your screenplay, what is it about?

Phil Mitchell

Hi Rosalind, If you remember, we just worked together putting my screenplay into shape. Who's Your Daddy? 1966. I have been transplanting another of my books "Bad Ivory" into a screenplay. Unfortunately it is about 200 pages long and I have been told NOT to produce anything more than 100 - 110. Do you have any suggestions. Log line on site.

Rosalind Winton

Hi Diane, thank you very much. The screenplay is called The Postcard and it's based on the true story of my Great Grandparents Harry and Rebecca. They were immigrants from Poland in the early 1900s when there was an uprising and they settled in London. After some years, they decided to travel to America as it was rumoured there was more opportunity there and also to reunite Rebecca with her family, but a few days before they were due to leave, one of their children became ill and couldn't go, so they decided that she would stay in London with the children and Harry would go, get settled and then they would follow when the child was better, but they had bought tickets for the Titanic and Harry died when it sank in 1912. Before Titanic set sail from Southampton, he sent a postcard to Rebecca and it has survived through the years, I have it in a frame in my home, it's 106 years old. So the screenplay is about the postcard's journey through the years intertwined with the story of Harry and Rebecca.

Hi Phil

Great to hear from you. The thing you've got to remember is that in Final Draft, the rule of thumb is that it's one minute of film per page, so 110 pages would be one hour and fifty minutes of film (think I've got that right), so 200 pages comes to, I think, over three hours worth of film, so it really does need to be drastically cut down. I suggest you go through it and cut down any lengthy dialogue, make sure you have taken out all text that is 'thought' based, make sure there are no lengthy monologues. Remember a screenplay has to be 'show, don't tell' and has to be action based. If you want to send me the first eight pages of your screenplay, I'll take a look (no charge) and give you some advice.

Phil Mitchell

Thanks I will send you the first eight pages. I have the log line and synopsis posted on Stage 32. "Bad Ivory"

Hi Phil, I can't get onto the page, when I click on the link, it's telling me the page isn't available. Send me the synopsis and log line with your first eight pages.

Sounds interesting, I like things with historical connections, happy writing x
