Why is it problem to adapt some books to a script?

Hi, I recently wrote and published a book called The Last Savior. I have encountered a problem that I am not sure If I am doing a good job of converting it too a script. In the past I have adapted short stories into scripts with no problem. How do you guys go about encountering problems in adapting a full length story into a script?

WL Wright

I did that on one of my most loved novels and I hated cutting things out which is a must if it's a novel length book. But I think I captured the core of the story and that is the goal. It's like the Shining if you read the book the move isn't as great. The movie would've been too long if they put everything in that book into the movie.

This is an excellent question, excellent subject, will like to hear more in discussion!

I think one issue that comes up in book-to script adaptations often is that internal dialogue doesn't always translate well to film because it's not visual. Another issue that occurs often is that there is just so much material in a novel that it almost lends itself better to a series rather than a feature-length film. So maybe take a portion and create a TV pilot? Just a suggestion.
