Any good suggested reading, videos, etc. on here or otherwise? I've read On Film Editing by Edward Dmytryk and I appreciated broadening my horizons on different editing concepts. Any recommendations appreciated!
A pretty standard go-to for editing is Walter Murch's In the Blink of an Eye. And as for videos, you can usually find some great stuff on YouTube that will explain the basics, Film Riot is always a solid resource. And there are software-specific tutorials if you're looking to learn a certain program.
Studying edits/cuts in movies is a great idea, Kyler Boudreau. I'm starting to learn more about editing so I can write better scripts. "Man on Fire" has my favorite two actors (Denzel and Dakota).
Definitely In the Blink of an Eye. If you're thinking of sound, consider The Sound Effects Bible. How often to you watch the "behind the scenes" of things? I've learned SO much from those! As an editor, it would definitely help to learn a certain amount of cinematography so that you can help to elevate the cinematic language that starts out as raw footage.
