AFM 2020 Attendees: Comment HERE

Hey, Stage 32-ers!

Let's start a thread for all those who are attending AFM this year! That way you can connect during and after the event about what you liked, you learned, and what you'll be doing next. AFM is a fantastic opportunity to learn and connect and Stage 32 is happy to help you stay connected! As the Managing Director at AFM, Jonathan Wolf, says, "Writers who attend AFM - online or in Santa Monica - for the sole purpose of selling a script will be disappointed. If your focus is just transactional, you'll miss most of the benefits.

For producers and writers, AFM is about education (the sessions), marketplace intelligence (discovering what is working and what isn't) and most importantly making new connections. Our 2020 networking platform is amazing. Many attendees will make more new connections online this year than they would have in Santa Monica."

Here's the trailer for this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eShhM04siR4

If you are attending, comment below with what seminars or panels you'll be attending!

Also, is there a way you could incorporate AFM into one of your weekly November Write Club goals? https://www.stage32.com/blog/The-Stage-32-November-Write-Club-is-Back-Wh...

Ole-André Rønneberg

Hey, I am joining AFM for the first time this year. Basically for the reasons you are mentioning, and not selling anything this year. I need to learn the market, so I will join as many seminars as possible (the 9 hours time difference will be a challenge).

Martin Reese

I'm attending. They have some cool screenwriter workshops and I'm attending some of the pitch events that can be viewed. Real interested in the Nigerian Filmmakers talk. The Future of Film talks are interesting.

Hope Allen

I'll be there. Looking forward to it!

Crystal L Brooks

I'm attending. I set up my profile and did my agenda. Its jam packed all week with workshops that I am looking forward to attending. I am looking forward to the Future of Film workshop. I just saw that they will have the President of Distribution from NEON films there. I'm really looking forward to hearing from her.

Gregory Q. Jenkins

I will be attending. Representing my company, Quentasia Studios. We're on the hunt for content from diverse filmmakers.

Ole-André Rønneberg

I was just on the VOD- discussion, and it was very good!

Daniel E. Hall

Hello. I'm checking in from the UK, so well stocked up with coffee & red bull for some late, late nights. Going to see as many panels as I can. Sat in on the Director/Producer relationship panel right now. It's all very exciting!

Crystal L Brooks

AFM has been really good so far. Caffeine is a must. I did the Nigeria Cinema Exhibition. They have 181 million people. Great market for content and co-productions. Most watch content on streaming given the lack of cinemas. But very interesting. The Screenwriting on a Microbudget was AWESOME.

Martin Reese

That Screenwriting on Microbudget was indeed awesome, Crystal L. Brooks. I am huge fan of Bryan Edward Hill. Overall I'm glad I decided to attend AFM.

Crystal L Brooks

Me too! I definitely followed him on Twitter afterwards. I hope Stage 32 invites Bryan Edward Hill to do a webinar.

How's it going, y'all? Any highlights to share?

Crystal L Brooks

It's been a long day. The Finance Conferences were excellent. I can't say that I enjoyed the SagIndie Presentation. They explained the different low budget agreements which was great. Everything has to be filmed in the United States. The story I'm working on has scenes taking place in Italy. Makes no sense that you can't get an exception to film scenes there. Doesn't seem like some of the others like the limitations of Sag-Aftra's theatrical requirements considering COVID. I thoroughly enjoyed the Art of Cinematic Structure. I met some fellow creatives and did some networking which I really enjoyed. Big shout out to Hope Allen! I think its great to connect with fellow Stage 32 members at AFM. This is pretty overwhelming and its just great to talk with others and get to know each other.

Ole-André Rønneberg

I missed the Screenwriting on Microbudget seminar. I saw one pitch session, and that was inspiring! We don't practice our pitches that way in Norway, and I just has to work on it, work on it, and work on it.... I saw a couple of the Finance conferences, and yes, they was spot on!

Daniel E. Hall

The Blockchain session on streaming platforms was fascinating. I'm not going to pretend I understood all of it; a good percentage of it sailed way over my head. But it has certainly given me pause for contemplation...

Crystal L Brooks

Attended the last panel on Blockchain Royalties Panel. Very interesting. Glad they posted links to various websites. I bookmarked all of them. Very interesting for the future of entertainment. I like tech so this should be interesting.
