Beyond Production Insurance: Pandemic Insurance

Something I've learned since living in LA is that most people in the business assume to file for unemployment automatically between gigs because they don't know when their next gig will be. This was so foreign to me because in the DC area, you don't file for unemployment unless you've been laid off, and even then there was a hesitation and shame that came with it.

Well, with COVID and so many people relying on unemployment, it's interesting to think of a "new" insurance that could supplement the harsh demands of both the industry AND mass health crises. What do y'all think?

yeah, back in the old days when tv seasons were from August to April, 18-24 episodes a season, our post facility would shut down for two months in the summer. We’d go on vacation, collect unemployment, go back to work in August/September.

Show Biz Jobs look bleak in 2021. Corporations like ESPN, Disney are downsizing staff. Talent agencies firing Assistants.
