Casting Director for Action Thriller Drama

Dear community,

We are currently packaging a deep and gory martial-arts Action Thriller and Urban Drama with a female lead and a first pass budget of about $21M.

The pitch deck, including detailed budgeting, shooting schedule and shortlist, will be ready next week. We now look for a casting director to help staff the movie and attach A-List talent for the leading parts.

I would be very grateful for recommendations, connections and advice.

Of course, I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Thank you and kind regards

Do you have money to provide deposits? If you're CD can get A-listers, then you'll have to drop a deposit to hold them. The first thing the agent will ask, "Is it set up somewhere or funded?" Meaning is it with a studio or the like? No set up, not funded, no deposit, no a-list talent.

Thank you for commenting. You precisely identified the problem. The plan is to create a shoppable package including the LOIs of A-Listers to make the project hard to turn down by a studio.

It's difficult to sell the project without talent attached, but without having sold the project, it's difficult to find the money for a CD.

This conundrum makes the chase of packaging fun! Good luck - don't give up til you get what you want!

I do have a question. Attaching A-listers will entail both pay-or-play and signing bonuses. Do you have cash in hand for that? I can certainly connect you with a casting director who can attach such people, but at this level it is not a game for aspiring filmmakers or those who don't have the budget available (ie. she cannot work on spec and if she cannot broker a deal with actual cash, it won't be good for her - or your - reputation).

Dear Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg,

thank you very much for your comment.

The plan is to create a package which is to good to turn down by reputable studios, adding value with talent. As the pitch material, budgeting and shooting schedule are finished, we currently try to attach a director.

Attaching A-List talent would be a lot easier with a CD as well. We do not yet have the cash, but of course will I try to raise these funds, because it's obvious that we cannot approach an experienced CD with empty hands.

As I learned that fees for CDs vary a lot, it would be very helpful if you could estimate the amount of money needed to hire your contact. If you do not wish to tell me her name just yet, I would also love to know if she has some experience with the genre, id est: action-thriller, drama.

Finally, advice on where to look or whom to approach for financing is highly appreciated.

As of now, I am activating my own business network, before thinking about crowdfunding and other means.

Thank you and kind regards
