Documentary-style - Producer/Production tips wanted

We've been involved with a fundraising project over the last few years to raise money and awareness for Mitochondrial Disease & Transverse Mialisis, in particular we've been involved with two little girls (both 7) who live in Canada and the US, respectively. For the longest time, we’ve had this idea to reach out to production companies with this documentary road movieesque idea. What we were thinking about doing was drive the distance from one girl’s home to the other on a Vespa-like scooter driving no faster than an avarage scooter would. Why on a scooter and not a motorcycle/Car, you might ask? A couple of reasons! We think the slow-TV sort of feel you’d get from the scooters is a representation of how slow the medical study/support/… of the “governing organs” is progressing, b) we think learning how to drive a scooter (which we’ve never actually done before) might be easier than learning how to ride a motorcycle (also possibly safer) + it might get some funny footage seeing a twin on a rediculously slow scooter/learning how to handle the thing. The plan is to make money-raising stops along the way for the fund + asking for sponsors, allowing hospitals and experts to talk about the effects & research & to put the spotlight on illnesses that are often forgotten by huge marketeers & corporations because they’re deemed “not profitable enough”. If we can believe google maps, this would be around 4000 miles all-together. It would be an adventure, but we wouldn’t want to go ahead actually (trying to) plan or get a prod.company/sponsors behind this Current working title: "We scoot for Savannah & Seattle" (this is a reference to a walk the organization did at one point) The parents agree with it. Does anyone have any idea on how to move forward, as we've never attempted soemthing of this scale before! Tips to production companies/from production companies/ ... Many thanks
