Studio Execs are saying "How do I keep my cushy studio job?" By doing a remake! BINGO! Reboot a known franchise. Make sure the development phase overlaps the end of Exec contract, get contract renewed. Play the game and you will be happily employed.
But seriously, why not? Make whatever. These franchise titles are endless.

Tone deaf, as per...
Gender flipping - nothing wrong with that - Ghostbusters, Tilda Swinton‘s part in”Dr Strange” being based on a character who is male in the comics, Angelina Jolie taking on a previously-Tom-Cruise role in “Salt”, and a female "The Mummy" - leading roles for women - come on guys!
I think it's it a great idea to reboot Lord of the flies with girls - the film needs making in this era to educate the young people of the this generation - keep this great social commentary story alive - if it was made starring dogs I would still be interested in it.
