Seeking advice. What is the practice on making deals between the author and broadcaster?

Hello, fiends! I am the author of the idea, script writer and creative producer of the TV series. The hero, which series is dedicated well known in this country. Suppose the channel wants to launch this show based on my script and producer's research. In this regard, can I expect to get some shares for international sales? Is there a practice where only the idea + script paid by TV without providing the pilot episode?

D Marcus

If the station wants to launch this show based on your script and producer's research then you will enter a contract negotiation. During that negotiation they will try to spend as little money as possible and you will try to get as much as possible. At some point an agreement will be reached. If a share if international sales is important to you then you bring that up during the contract negotiation. You cannot expect to get that - you must ask for and negotiate those shares.

Thank you D Markus. What is the difference between the station and the cable networks? Who are more flexible in negotiations? It is true that they have their affiliated productions studio (company) who become executors?

D Marcus

There is almost no difference today. TV stations and cable and even streaming (like Netflix) are all in need of new content. No one is more flexible in negotiations. Some networks like NBC/Universal have prodCo's and studio facilities. But the doesn't mean all shows distributed by NBC are produced by NBC/Universal or made at their studio.
