Questionable Movie Trend or Kickass Creativity?

I'm finding myself getting very "over" the trend in movies (Baby Driver, Atomic Blond, etc) to turn them into music video mashups. Great for music royalty holders I guess, but bad for movie composers. Anyone else?

Jon Bonnell

Its about a sense of nostalgia. It gained huge popularity after Guardians of the Galaxy and is going strong. It will probably burn out in a year or so... At least its not all about current pop tunes anymore.

Dan MaxXx

Nope I don't worry. It take 3 to 5 years from page to silver screen. Any trend now will be over by the time you finish final edit of your movie.

Jeff Lyons

Just bad news for film composers and the art of the movie soundtrack ... composers have to be a little nervous.

D Marcus

I love them! Music is such an important part of many people's lives so I find a character like Baby fascinating. I don't see using music this way burning out in a year or so - this trend has been goin...

1st Time Producer

After reading a few posts let me see if I understand what you have to do as a 1st time producer.

1. Get a great script.

2. Put together a great team of film professionals.

3. Put together financials that show investors how they are going to get their money back.

4. Try to get someone well-known attached...

Copyright of old toys

I'm looking to use the classic Fisher Price Chatter Phone toy as a prop in a film. If logo stickers are off and the phone is slightly altered, do you think this would be a copyright issue to be concerned about?

If you're just using it as a prop in a passing manner it should be fine. If you're using it as a central part of your story (ie: as "Rosebud" in Citizen Kane, or a magic portal to another realm ala th...

Should the producers work for free for your project?

If you want to bring a REAL producer (track record on IMDB) to the board and add credibility to your project you have to know that they don't work for free. You have to pay them something upfront or figure out another form of payment. And there is very little room for maneuvering and the art of nego...

Average Joe vs Producer

From an international producer’s point-of-view, which is better: to test your idea and loglines on some hapless passer-by (as suggested in Save The Cat), or to run it by a producer or distributor? The Average Joe/s might think that the idea has merit, but oftentimes it’s not what a producer is looki...

D Marcus

For the average Joe I believe it is more important to write a script that producers are looking for. The odds of some hapless passer-by picking up a script are zero, even if every single one of them LOVES the log line.

Vitaly Kozlov

I agree with D Marcus. Producers are not looking for ideas, producers are looking for a script and a delivery of this product. And if that script has some legs, viable attachments then you really got attention of producers. That's how it works in their biz.

Gregory Green

My opinion is to write a spec script about what you are passionate about - and craft an amazing script. Several actually. Then find an agent and have that agent get those scripts out there for you. He...
