What do you do to motivate yourself to actually make a film?

What are some tips and tricks to avoid procrastination :)

Shaun O'Banion

You could do what my old buddy said to me many years ago: "Just get up from the fu*king table and go do it." Ultimately, you shouldn't need to motivate yourself to do it though. My buddy only said that to me because, if he hadn't, I'd probably still be re-writing at my kitchen table. So stop procrastinating. Do you want to be a filmmaker or are you just going to sit there all day and watch Blu-rays? Go. Do.

Never fear of perfection! Once you have the material, do what you are expected to do either good, bad or ugly. After you've done, check and make corrections then you get perfection. :-)

I usually get depressed then out of angst write something I hate. Let someone read it and tweak it til it's something I hate less. Then months of slapping myself and putting together money. Bring on partners, but be wary even the strongest swimmers once they lose steam can be heavier than just trying to go this on your own.

All good advice here. One famous writer once said, “I hate to write, but love to have written.” I don’t feel exactly that way because being in flow and writing actually is fun for me. But in the end, you do have to put yourself in the chair in front of your word processor and get to it.

Goal. Think about writing one page a day, or a week, soon you will be writing more. This was the advice from C. Robert Cargill (writer for Dr. Strange, etc) on twitter this week :)
