Question about group

Does this group only apply to movies/TV, or novels as wwell?

Rosalind Winton

Hi David, I'm a literary editor, how can I help?

David V. Pyle

trying to get a book in top form, form for a publisher. Have several self-published on Amazon, still would be nice to make a sale with a company like Baen or Daw, or such. I've been told after first ten chapters not to worry about it, not sure if that's true or not.

Would you have any advice on promotion of books already self-published on Amazon? I've posted links in assorted Facebook groups, have yet to get much in sales, and virtually no comments left.

Hi David

You can still try and get the books that are on Amazon into book shops, that's absolutely fine, I would do some research on that. Otherwise it's a case of promoting them as much as possible on any social media platform, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, anything you can, but you have to repost regularly to keep up the momentum. Start a blog page about your writing and yourself. You need an audience for your books and find people that are fans of your genre. Be passionate and talk about your books to anyone and everyone you can. If you are passionate about your work, others will be too, don't apologise for being a writer and don't belittle it in any way. Remember also, that having books on Amazon is a great achievement. Do book signings, get yourself known locally. Keep a copy of one of your books with you as much as you can, so that when you do talk about it, you can show people. You never know who knows who. Put small ads in local newspapers/magazines. I know that a lot of this will cost to do, but that's the thing with self publishing and you have to accept that, don't think of it as a negative, think of it as a positive way to promote your work.

I'm not sure what you meant about 'only ten chapters' of your book. I think you mean not to send it to publishers at that stage. Finish the book first, then send it off.

If you are going to send your book to a publisher, it's got to be absolutely as perfect as you can get it. You may also need a synopsis and covering letter. If you are sending it to many publishers, make sure you follow their submission guidelines to the letter.

I'm sending you a PM as well.

Hope this all helps.
