Screenwriting : Activities? Lay them on me! by Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

Activities? Lay them on me!

I've been writing like crazy and pitching my wares in between. I've also spent several hours assisting someone *punch up" their teleplay. What have you been doing to create more content and get your work out there? Please share successes and failures and what's been working for you. Remember, helping your fellow screenwriters is good for additional deposits in the karmic bank. Just my 'umble opinion.

Rutger Oosterhoff

Created a 3-page Unscripted Reality TV Series format (and written pitch), the first one that I really like,;going to pitch it outside this website, and ;later on maybe here. It's hilarious bad taste but in an exciting way!! Paranoia all along the way!

Christine Capone

Hi Phillip, Could you share your process on how you go about pitching your projects? What steps you take? The best way to go about it? Sorry, so many questions but I'm curious. Thanks!

Maurice Vaughan

I've been making more writing samples and pitch deck samples so I can use them to apply for jobs, which has been working. I've been building more relationships, which has led to more script reads, jobs, and projects. I've also been reading more writers' scripts/giving notes, which has also helped me out because I've learned things from their scripts.

Kiril Maksimoski

Well I just came back from vacation...dunno's that failure or success...

Naw, on a serious note I might be considering blogging a little...sharing some of mine screenwriting experiences maybe aiding someone with theirs...

Craig D Griffiths

My youtube channel is a ghost town compared to many others. But I do a new episode every week without fail. It is my wife’s 50th this week, so I have prerecorded. I don’t miss a week.

Why do I do it? Because I am there to try and share and help (if I can) the 80 or subscribers. I aim at the new writer. Get them over the hump and think of writing as a art.

I am trying to help and I hope I do.

The benefit to me. It is a reputation tool. People know what they get when they call me. They have 100 hours of video to get use to me and my opinions. Plus it is there forever.

The scary thing, and why most people don’t do it. Is publishing your thoughts is really putting yourself out for public display and ridicule.

Has it paid any dividends? Yes. People have contacted me and thanked me. Nothing better.

Maurice Vaughan

How was your vacation, Kiril Maksimoski?

Maurice Vaughan

Hope your wife enjoys her birthday, Craig D Griffiths. Your videos cover things I don't see in other people's videos. I'm sure you'll get more subscribers. :)

Working on making a feature ... locking down my cast now, waiting for everyone to get signed so we can schedule rehearsals and a table read.

Haven't written anything since this all began.... it's been kind of nice.

Wendy Weising

I’m taking an intensive screenwriting class that takes you from concept to marketing. It’s amazing. I’m learning things I hadn’t thought about before. I’m also in a screenwriting group.

Dan Guardino

A couple of days ago I had to do a quick polish on a screenplay I wrote with Judy Norton to send to a producer. I got another request from another producer so I am polishing that one to get ready to go this afternoon. Tonight I will be starting a rewrite for someone else. I don't consider those kinds of things a success. but that is what I have been doing these last few days.

Jerry Robbins

I recently signed with a manager and she has been working on getting two of my scripts out there... after I did some rewrites. Waiting to hear back from those producers. I also did a query email blast for another script which hit today, and I the rest of the time I am writing a new drama. All this while selling my house - it's been a very hectic few weeks!

Breeze Vincinz

Pulled out a script I wrote eons ago and did a complete rehaul, and it turned out to be one of the best things I have ever written. I've been workshopping it and getting coverage, and so far, I've been getting a ton of positive feedback. I just submitted it to a couple of contests and fellowships, but I am researching the "next steps,"... namely representation.

Maurice Vaughan

Congrats to everyone on going after your goals, your successes, and learning things from the failures (if you had some)!

Howard Koor

Nice share. I am happy to read 10 pages of some one's screenplay. Thank you

Kiril Maksimoski

Thanks for asking Maurice Vaughan ...the way I like it: cheap & nice...

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Kiril Maksimoski. Cheap and nice sounds great. And after the vacation is done, you're happy because you didn't spend a lot of money.

Mark Giacomin

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique I quite like the idea of you pitching your wares...rock up with a suitcase, open it, stuffed full of scripts. Rewritten script number 3, & somehow accidentally started threshing out ideas & a plot for a contained horror script. Something random caught my eye a couple of weeks ago & the hook got under my skin. Probably not a bad thing to be writing new content before I decide on the next script to rewrite.

Ingrid Wren

Just finished my last pass on my script "Star Dancer", and about to start work on the next story, a grounded sci-fi. Polished my verbal pitch and continuing to practice. Getting materials together for a pitch deck. Helping others with their projects and pitches, participating in table reads, reading others scripts and giving feedback, and generally having a wonderful time. It does involve getting up very early in the morning sometimes!

CJ Walley

Created one of the largest scripts hosting platforms out there completely by myself, built it on word of mouth, and offered it to everyone for free.

Also shared my writing process and what I've learned from working in the industry in the form of blogs and a free writing guide.

It's been a long time coming but it's made me some wonderful friends at every level.

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique Hi Phillip, I’m researching for a new mythological epic story and loving finding out about ancient mythologies and cosmologies.

I connected with a literary agent through Stage 32 and sent him one of my scripts after an hour long Zoom call. This seems to have gone dry though. Never mind, I keep pressing on. Later this month I’ll be sending my Pitch Deck to an Exec, to see what they think and to get their appraisal.

In the literary world, I’m working on producing an audiobook.

Jim Boston

Phillip, I'm working on a comedy-drama screenplay called "Intervention!" In it, four neighboring families in present-day San Diego answer their anger over the racist slights in their lives by enticing the perpetrators of those slights into a sensitivity-training weekend...and hope to teach the perps about the value of unity.

A few days ago, I looked into the gigs tracker at Network ISA...and found out that nine of the seventeen scripts I'd sent to producers through ISA earned considers! (I've still got yet to send "Golden Oldies" or "Cynthia Harmon" to a producer through ISA, but "Really Old School," "Shorthose and Flaxbeard," "Jingle Belles," "Tin Mine," "Fine Tooth Comb," "Pixie Dust," and "Bleeding Gums" reached the "under consideration" level since I joined ISA in 2020. So did "Yes, Indeed!" and "Got Any More Bullets, Sister?")

Man, it sure helps to have irons in the fire...and while the goal is "recommend...let's get it produced," "consider" sounds much better than "pass," when you consider how long it takes to make a movie or a TV show, from script to finished product.

In age of information overload, reading through this thread (NB: I promise I do read people's bios!), seeing Craig's comments about his YouTube channel (added to my viewing list...already have his 'Logline' book on my reading list as he kindly provided a free link in another thread ) & CJ's comments (added his blog to my reading list & boomarked his 'Script Revolution website so I can have a read through), I appreciate the time individuals take to initiate discussions, offer guidance, share knowledge & resource (including of course the owner of this post, Phil), it certainly makes a difference to me, & probably a lot of other people - thanks!

Victor Titimas

I'll soon(maybe even later today) write a short story, which I'll post, if allowed, on the "Anything Goes" lounge...:)

Daniel Stuelpnagel

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique for real !!

A good friend is hosting a salon event next week that he and I have been "planning" for about three years,

we've scouted locations, shot video and collaborated on scripts and table reads, he's a post-production genius and musician, we both have many theatre friends, and this will be a mutual mentoring opportunity that we share with a few dozen of our local (Baltimore) artists' crew.

Also spending plenty of my summer loitering in the shade at local watering holes talking politics with the artists' community while we enjoy the obligatory complimentary wine!

Maurice Vaughan

It'll be better to post your short story in the "Your Stage" Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/promotion) and on Your Wall, Victor.

Victor Titimas

I posted it on Your Stage(link to its Reddit post)...:)

Why I haven't been active on Stage 32.

Outside of everyday business and family commitments, I've:

-had a table read completed by the leading cast members for a feature script I wrote with Jon Shallit called Kat 'n' Mouse.

-adapted one of my thrillers into an audible script within 48hrs because I refused to allow the opportunity to make passive income pass me.

-secured the L.O.I.s for three of the prefered cast members and a recognised director for my and Phil E Hardy's project TBTM (The Black-Market Therapist).

I also pitched this project to two known streaming companies and await feedback from a producer who fell in love with the concept.

-completely refreshed a script I wrote with Kat Rollinson (with the help of Uncle Phil), called The Parent Club. This project has also been pitched to one of the big streaming platforms (via a 3rd party).

-sold a treatment for $1300 for a project I had no interest in developing myself.

-registered a new production company and now working with a Web3 developer to create an innovative platform where I can display all the projects my team is working on. The platform allows actors/actresses, producers and directors to effortlessly identify projects they seek or are interested in and attach themselves in three easy steps; eliminating the hassle of lengthy paperwork/contracts/etc. Providing potential investors/stakeholders complete transparency, allowing them to make informed decisions.

-been working with a talented author/screenwriter on a project he has just landed with a tv network in the U.K.

-gone through the tedious and laborious task of completing a 56-page finance document sent to me by Film Hedge. Honestly, I'd appreciate anyone with expertise in financing to help with this. I'm mentally dying.

AND

-proofread a fantastic script adaptation of a Stehpen Leather novel (Writer of The Foreigner, starring Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan).

All in all. I'd say I've had a hectic 4-5 weeks.

The reality, however, is that my team make this all possible. Without them, I doubt I'd even be able to achieve less menial tasks like tying my shoelace or wiping my behind.

Just ask Uncle Phil how bad I am to work with.

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

Naithan is a hustler and he gets it done.

Maurice Vaughan

Great to see you again, Naithan. Congrats to you and your team on the work and success! You all have been BUSY.

Naithan Hilaire

Phil - I hustle and you get it done, lol.

Maurice - Likewise. It truly is a team effort.

Dan Guardino

Phillip. Congrats on your new project.

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

Dan G: Thank you!
