Guidance for Copyrighting a Series

I just received the correspondence below from the Copyright Office – it’s self-explanatory what happened and how to register a series correctly.

We are writing because you submitted a Standard Application to register multiple unpublished works (a script for a pilot episode and a bible), but this is no longer possible.

Effective March 15, 2019, the Office no longer accepts an online Standard Application or paper application to register multiple unpublished works. Instead, applicants must use the new online application for a “Group of Unpublished Works” (GRUW). A GRUW application may include up to 10 unpublished works. To learn more about the requirements for this option, see Circular 24 (https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ24.pdf).

We have registered the script of the pilot episode, and you will receive a registration certificate for that work in several weeks. To register the remaining works, you must submit separate applications, or online GRUW application(s), if the requirements in Circular 24 are met.

Hope this can help someone in the future!
