Recently, I hung out with a manager friend, who reminded me that character is what's trending in the industry right now. Whether it's the personal narrative you share in a general, or the emotional core of your pilot, it's all anyone can talk about right now... http://leejessup.com/pitching-contests/trending-industry-character/

Interesting article
Hi Lee. I liked your well-written article on the role your own character plays in selling your screenplay. I don't think that one's background life story however, is the whole story. It doesn't allow for one's imagination, coupled with ability to research and imagine (in my own case the 1880s in Ottawa Canada, Paris and London in my screenplay "Wilde About Oscar"). Perhaps my appearing on-stage in "Importance Of Being Ernest" may have some relevance. Otherwise I like that period, so have concentrated my research and imagination there. I think one's background is only part of the equation. And what about the ability to be a sales-person, whatever one choses to sell?
Good stuff, Lee. Thanks for sharing!
