Screenwriting : Just booked my first-ever pitch session on Stage 32 by HB Duran

Just booked my first-ever pitch session on Stage 32

...it's also my first pitch as a screenwriter ever, so...trying not to panic, ha!

I've got three weeks to prepare and chose the Skype option. My pilot is solid but I'm spending this time to master pitch techniques and requirements. For those who have pitched here before, what advice do you have?

Do they tell you yes or no right away? I don't have representation yet. If they say yes and want to learn more, do you think that would help me land a manager?

Chaun Lee

Hi HB! Congrats on taking the next step towards getting your work out there. Yes, I agree with your approach. Take the time to master the pitch. It's probably the most difficult part of the process for many writers. Get the Samm Haillay webinar in the stage32 vault for pitch structure. Also, if you are able, look into joining the writer's room here or purchase the pitch tank webcasts to see what it's like to pitch. I love the webinar with Samm because he really breaks it down for you. Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Jason Mirch - he hosts the Writer's Room. Best of luck!!

HB Duran

Thanks Chaun Lee! Sounds like I'm on the right track. I'm a Writer's Room member and have been taking advantage of all the great webinars on-demand, in addition to a bit of a TV pitch webinar shopping spree, haha.

Dan Guardino

If they say yes to reading a screenplay that would be good but it wouldn't help you land a manager. If that were the case I'd probably have had a1,000 managers. However I can't offer any advise because I don't pitch anymore so I never thought I was that good at it. Good luck!!!!!

Richard P. Alvarez

"What else ya got?" - Be ready.

HB Duran

Great advice, everyone! I have the guidebook and have been studying it Nick Assunto - Stage32 Script Services! And luckily, Richard P. Alvarez "what else ya got?" is one of the first things I learned from other people's experiences years ago so I'm prepared!!

Jason Mirch

Hey HB Duran - congratulations on taking this step! That is huge! Really excited for you. Keep us posted on how it goes!

HB Duran

Will do Jason Mirch thank you!

Erick Freitas

Good luck!

Brian Rhodes

Kudos HB! Knock em over!

Dawn Prato

Break a leg!

Sandra K. Lynne

You'll do great!!

Tony Ray

How did you do? Hopefully it went well.

HB Duran

My pitch was this morning and I think it went well. Hit all the beats I wanted and even got a "how interesting" - guess we'll see for sure when the scorecard comes. Great experience either way! I must say that I expected the Skype call to be a video chat but my internet is a lot more stable than my cell reception so I'm glad I chose that option anyway.

Dan Guardino

HB. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Sandra K. Lynne

That's great! Can't wait to hear how it turned out. Keeping my fingers crossed for you too.

Melanie Collup

How did it go?

HB Duran

Thanks Dan Guardino and Sandra K. Lynne ! Just waiting for my scorecard Melanie Collup to see if the exec wants to know more. If not, I found the queries webinar to be very informative and will keep plugging along. Thanks for the well wishes, everyone!

Dawn Prato

that's amazing, congratulations HB Duran!

HB Duran

Thanks so much Maurice Vaughan and Dawn Prato !! Still in shock over here.

Sandra K. Lynne

That's fantastic!!! Congratulations!! Onward and upward!!

Rebecca D Robinson

I did a pitchfest down in Burbank a few years ago and it was really fun. By number 4 or 5 I was more relaxed and didn't need my notes anymore. If you can work in a bit of humor, that's good! Be enthusiastic and confident - you'll nail it.

Jerry Robbins

That's awesome news! Congratulations! Now the pins and needles start!

Laurie Gabriel

Congratulations!!!

Bill Albert

Congrats. It's a pretty crazy ten minutes. I resisted it for a long time and stuck with written but made jumped in feet first a few months ago. Just take a deep breath and start running. Good luck.
