Can anyone recommend when to begin scouting for literary agents? I've completed one published book, and three screenplays with ratings in the 'consider' and 'recommend' range.
If an agent said “I represent Matt” would that open doors? That is when you need an agent.
A survey of WGA writers (pre agent battled) showed that writers generate 70% of their own work. They still pay the agent for that work. Getting an agent early means you pay them for little benefit.
Bill. Yes especially when it comes to agents. They only want to rep screenwriters that can write good screenplays on a regular bases and one or two would not prove that.
I started looking for a literary agent when I had three of four screenplays under my belt.
Matt, I would take Dan’s advice.

I never actively looked for an Agent but one found me anyway. Frankly they need you more than you need them.
Eventually you'll get asked "What else have you got?" Sounds like you're ready.

Mathew. Good luck! I hope you find one to rep you.
