Screenwriting : Quick practical question by Leticia Agudo

Quick practical question

Hi all,

Hope you're all doing well and keeping motivated!

I wonder can anyone help me with this: when you apply to one of the pitch sessions, should you upload the screenplay to your project logline section if you have a script, or is the logline & synopsis enough for the quick pitches and can follow on with the script if they want it? Wondering re privacy, especially if you have some execs or producers already looking at a specific project. Basically, is it better to have the script uploaded or not.

Thanks a million!

Leticia

Hi Leticia,

I think uploading the synopsis and logline should be enough. When someone responds to your pitch, then you can take it up from there.

Leticia Agudo

Hi Abraham, thank you very much. I will do that!

Maurice Vaughan

Hello, Leticia Agudo. I upload my scripts because if an executive, producer, etc. is interested in a project after reading the logline and/or synopsis, they can download the script right away, which saves that person time and gets the ball rolling faster on the script being optioned, sold, and made. Think about this. If the executive, producer, etc. likes your project after reading the logline and/or synopsis, they might say, "Send me the script." If you don't get time to read their message or email until days or weeks later (hey, life happens), there's a chance you might miss an opportunity.

Usually, a producer will ask writers to sign a release form before sending scripts. Check with stage 32 management before sending unsolicited scripts.

Leticia Agudo

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Maurice Vaughan and you have had - and will continue to have - great success, so I'm going to follow your lead! Thank you.

Leticia Agudo

Thanks Dan MaxXx Absolutely, I wouldn't send anything unsolicited, but since this is the platform for just the thing, if it's there and they want to read it, they can go ahead.

Maurice Vaughan

Dan MaxXx has a great point also, Leticia Agudo. And thanks for the compliment. I read your bio. You also have had great success. Hope you continue to have it.

Dan Guardino

As long as you requested it with the LoC why not.

Leticia Agudo

Thanks Dan Guardino , they're registered with the Writers' Guild.

Here's an article about the difference between registering your script with the WGA and the US Copyright Office, Leticia Agudo. https://writersspotlight.com/blog/wga-vs-copyright-where-should-i-regist...

Leticia Agudo

Ok, well, that's decided it. Thanks Maurice Vaughan - gets complicated if you're doing this outside the US - insert face palm here

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Leticia Agudo. I think you can still register with the U.S. Copyright Office if you're outside the U.S. Other writers on here might be able to speak more about it. You can also contact the U.S. Copyright Office about it:

Maurice. It doesn’t matter where some lives.

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, Dan Guardino. Thanks.

Leticia Agudo

Thank you both.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Leticia Agudo.

Don't send script to no one unless asked for...uwe got logline/synopsis for that...of course if the script is online and open to public, that's another story...
