Vertical Script?

What is a vertical Script, p[lease? I guess I better not apply, if I don't even know what a "Vertical Script Writer" is!

How about that!

William Martell

What Langley and Philips said. Less dense writing, shorter sentences, and keeping things moving down the page rather than across the page. Read a few Walter Hill screenplays to see an extreme version.

Francisco Castro

Yes, William Martell, read a Walter Hill script. Hill's STREETS OF FIRE is a fantastic read.

Ben Henning

That's so interesting! I didn't realize that was even a thing. So I suppose it would the effect of making the actual product faster-paced with snappy dialogue?

Movie Monologues- from The Script Lab

Here’s a great selection of video monologues from The Script Lab people. Plus, they give us the added bonus of a script download, so what’s not to love.

Do you write monologues in your scripts? Or are they considered old-school? I wrote one for my Big Pharma Drama where the main character, in a delus...

It has to have a purpose. Can be Very useful in showing the villain’s point of view, give a counter argument to the theme of the film.

Cathy Stewart

I don’t think that monologues are dead. It really depends on the script and the character as to whether it’s appropriate.

Dan MaxXx

I guess no experts told a young Tarantino monologues are dead.

Seriously, ppl only remember good/great and this occupation has way too many average skills in front & behind camera. Either you can or can't.

Ben Henning

My initial reaction is that it would really depend on the audience's investment in that character and what they have to say. Most movie monologues I've seen have had me invested, such as the one at th...

Storyboard- how important is it?

I'm a brand new screenwriter; I haven't had any major screenwriting jobs and I'm still perfecting my craft. So I was wondering, is it important for the writer to learn and practice storyboarding?

I've uploaded a couple of my original pilot scripts to my profile here, but would it be helpful for me t...

Hi All, do you think we should capitalize sights and sound in a script that's being submitted into competitions? Someone once said to me that it can be distracting. Thx!

Here's a random request: While I'm working on my own material (and aren't we all), I enjoy script reading as well. I've also taken some course work on script reading, so I'm not completely green. Logline scoring?

Is this a new feature? Some loglines I posted this week have had a bunch of people scoring them on a 5-star scale... but I've got dozens of loglines that've been on my page for years that have never been scored. Wondering if this is some new thing?

Christopher Phillips

Travis Seppala that feature has been there as long as I can remember. 1-5 stars

Travis Seppala

Christopher Phillips OK, thanks. It's just weird that my stuff's never gotten voted on before... but the ones I put up a few days ago people are scoring.

Christopher Phillips

Travis Seppala I've noticed sometimes that if a logline is recently posted, it will show up in my feed. Otherwise, I would have to look for them on the site.

What does a character’s involvement get them?

I was talking to my long suffering wife (she has skill in hiding her boredom) about characters I am writing.

I was saying that characters don’t always have to be in opposition. But the outcome of their actions must impact others in the story.

This feeds mostly into motivation.

Mike Boas

Character is defined by the choices people make.

Craig D Griffiths

Yep. You can’t say you’re a great guy while torturing people.

Preston Poulter

Multiple readers have commented that they enjoy having all the characters I present in my story, Palace of the Golden Princess, to be overtly evil.

I believe shows like Game of Thrones encourage the belief that everyone acts selfishly.

Intellectual Property

Who do we know that is/has a screenwriting agent that specializes in Intellectual Property? I wrote a feature screenplay that combines two franchises, one is a movie series and the other is a comic book series. If there's already a thread on this, I'm more than happy to delete my post.

Lindbergh E Hollingsworth

If you know whom owns the IP/franchises, you contact them for permission. If they do not reply or say “no” then you cannot move forward with this.

You should never write a screenplay based on material you don't have the rights to. An Agent won't help you try and sell it.
