Today's Wish and Creative Tip

Explore conflict on all 4s. Conflict makes stories interesting because it creates action and action creates change. But it's more than fighting. Conflict occurs on 4 primal levels: 1) Inner conflict is when your character is acting against what they believe, they become heroes when they have the courage of their convictions but they shouldn't start out that way. 2) Personal conflict is when their buttons are pushed by someone who has a personal stake in their lives. 3) Social conflict (look around it's everywhere) 4) Physical conflict, these are the battles. Put them all together with the makings coming from unlikely sources and you have a stew rich with character and ready to boil over, leaving the audience hungry for more. I don't want to deny you the conflict in your lives that may bring needed change but I do wish that the most grueling conflict be on the page and not in your daily routines.

David Levy

Love the 4 levels. The main character in my sic-fi superhero concept is a bullied college student with low confidence and self esteem. A lot of the conflict you mentioned he goes through. Glad I am on the right page! Thanks again for the great tips!

Beth Fox Heisinger

Great tips, Laurie! Thanks for sharing. :)

Leona McDermott

Thanks, Laurie. Am enjoying your daily tips.

Wow, amazing Laurie. It's like I already knew this but it can always get lost after rewrite's, so it's nice to see it written down which I can refer back to at any point. Definitely took a screen shot. Thanks.
