Screenwriting : Tone and Mood Descriptors by Bill Costantini

Tone and Mood Descriptors

Here is a nice list of descriptive words for tone and mood. It's not a complete list. I don't remember where I got it, and if anyone can cite the source, that would be great.

Tone is pretty well-defined as the writer's attitude towards the subject, and mood is the emotions felt by the reader/viewer. I used to struggle with tone in my stories, in terms of having a consistent tone. Sometimes an inconsistent tone can confuse and even turn off a reader/viewer. Industry pros always had asked me the tone of my story, if I had not stated it in the beginning of my pitch. I hope some of you find this helpful.

Linda Hullinger

Wow! Thanks for posting the list.

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

I like Ativan. Really improves my mood.

Bill Costantini

Linda: You're welcome. I think it has a lot of value.

Phil: I've know you for a few years now, and I've never felt like your mood needs improvement - you are one of the most upbeat and positive people that I know.

Dan MaxXx

Bill Costantini "nauseated" . UMBC wins over no. 1 seed Virginia. Moneyline +2000! Could've paid off my car on a $100 bet!

Bill Costantini

Dan: just on principle alone...if you would have tried to make that bet, I would have hit you over the head with your car! What a tale of two halves, though.

I'm rooting for the school that started in a shared building with my old high school (which is still in the same building)....

GO LOYOLA!
