Post-Production : LucasArts Employees by Robert Leslie Fallin

LucasArts Employees

I understand Disney bought out LucasArts and laid off most of the employees. Are there any who want to talk about what it would require to create CGI that could also be used in video games, graphic novels, presentations and simulations? If so, boy, do I have a project for you.

Marcelo Varanda

I recently took a CG short movie and created a game reusing many original shots. Check my webpage: http://www.cglabs.ca/games.html Here is the original movie: http://www.caminandes.com/ Cheers

Looks pretty good, Marcelo. If you would, take a quick read of my logline and a few pages of "Tubular Romance". I designed the support facilities and capsule amenities, but I am no illustrator. I do have a brief video or PowerPoint that explains how the system works. It would make a great add-on to a train or urban simulator.

Peter Butler

I worked in the games industry for 11 years for Disney. What would you like to know?

Robert Leslie Fallin

Thanks Peter. The Chinese government has proposed to build a magnetic levitation (maglev) train which would travel inside a vacuum tube from Beijing to the United States. http://www.gizmag.com/1800mph-maglev/32213/?utm_source=Gizmag+Subscriber...

Marcelo Varanda

Hi Robert, it is not clear to me what are you looking for. I guess would be helpful if you could explain in details what do you want.

Peter Butler

Hey Robert, thanks for the link, although I'm still a little confused on how you're thinking of applying real time graphics to this proposal?

Robert Leslie Fallin

Since 2003 I have been a licensee for a system called Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies (www.et3.com). The ET3 system uses minivan-size capsules instead of trains. Many of the early licensees had a falling out with et3, as we were completely cut out of the formation of a board of directors. None of us knows who is on the board besides the CEO and COO. We were also restricted from using the ET3 logo (which is not even a registered trademark) in any projects not approved by the company. So, after I completed the screenplay for my film project, "Tubular Romance," I had to replace "ET3" with "HYPERTUBE," which is now MY registered trademark. I am looking for someone willing to develop CGI that will actually perform simulations, so that the costs can be as broadly distributed as possible. Whoever does this will have to do at least some of the work on spec. However, the potential royalties could run into the tens of millions. I have developed designs for infrastructure that are so elegantly simple, I believe my HYPERTUBE system can be built for less than 1% what the Chinese expect to pay for their system, yet run more than twice as fast. So, Peter, if you or anyone you know is interesting in making a huge amount of money by putting in some "sweat equity," please let me know in this forum. I will then provide you my email address and we can transfer large files by Skype. Thanks again. BTW, the first "HYPERTUBE" system used in a movie was developed by Disney animators in the 1950s. The movie was called "Forbidden Planet".

Robert Leslie Fallin

Hi Marcello. My two replies to Peter should explain everything.

Peter Butler

When you say perform simulations are you talking about a simulation similar to airplane simulations with hydraulics? Or just a visual simulation showing how the system would work?

Peter Butler

If you're talking about running simulations that would test the dynamics and stress test the train then that's not something that any computer game company deals with .

Robert Leslie Fallin

I am talking about something akin to CATIA. With CATIA, you can actually "build and test" an airplane just the using the computer. I believe automobile companies are doing this today, as well.

Robert Leslie Fallin

If we can prove our system works to the Chinese, they will probably use our design, which could be worth trillions. If we make the graphics realistic enough, we can use them in "Tubular Romance," video game add-ons, graphic novels and presentations. We would then receive royalties for each one of these purposes. That is why I said "tens of millions". Clearly the Chinese are serious about building a maglev system. However, a maglev train system would not only be enormously expensive, it would be politically unacceptable to China's neighbors. Can you imagine how Russia, India and Vietnam would react to a "troop train" capable of reaching their borders with China from anywhere in China in 90 minutes or less?

Robert Leslie Fallin

The "stress test" simulations are "icing on the cake", Peter. I can probably get the Chinese government to do that IF I have good visual simulations.

Robert Leslie Fallin

I should mention I have a physicist inside China who can get me an audience with the Chinese government. I also have a production company with connections to China considering "Tubular Romance".

Robert Leslie Fallin

I also forgot to mention, there are no hydraulics in the HYPERTUBE system. Everything is either electronic or electro-mechanical.

Robert Leslie Fallin

I should also mention I worked in aerospace for 30 years; so, this is no "wild-eyed fantasy of a science fiction writer".

Robert Leslie Fallin

Everything in this system is either electronic or electro-mechanical. I worked in aerospace for 30 years. I have a great deal of supporting data for this project. Game simulators are fine for what I need. The only stresses might come as the result of an earthquake, and I have that problem already covered.

Marcelo Varanda

If all you want are graphics I would suggest you to create a storyboard and a description of the props in the scenes.

Marcelo Varanda

I am already collaborating with two non-profitable productios during my spare time. Therefore, I would just consider committing to paid jobs at this time. Good luck.

Robert Leslie Fallin

I cannot draw for beans, Marcelo. Besides, when I say "simulator," I am speaking about a simulation video game, such as F-15 Strike Eagle or the Microsoft train train and flight simulators. I do have VERY crude graphics with audio which clearly explain how my capsule loader and switching station designs work. With my switching station concept, capsules can operate both "forward" and reverse", using one tube. Can you imagine how much money that will save, when we are talking about anywhere from 10,000 to over 100,000 miles of tube?

Robert Leslie Fallin

I understand, Marcello. I do expect this to become quite profitable, possibly by the end of this month; certainly by Fall. I will post an announcement, once I have financial backing for my film project.
