Success Stories: SEP'21 Production has started on an Indie mockumentary I wrote!

Production has started on an Indie mockumentary I wrote!

I’m over the moon to share that production has officially begun on an indie project I wrote last year: Guardian “Anghells”, which had its first day of shooting yesterday on location in Norfolk, U.K.

Directed and produced by indie filmmaker Andy Blithe of Aturn Films, Guardian Anghells is a mockumentary of biblical proportions: a reluctant Second Coming, a washed-up messenger, and a disgraced demon must pull themselves together to stop a universal reboot—while contending with the rise of a social-media-influencing Antichrist.

Influenced by Peep Show, The Office, What We Do in the Shadows, and Good Omens, this project sets itself apart through its mockumentary lens, its satirical take on influencer culture and “reboots,” and its focus on very human flaws within divine figures. It’s irreverent, contemporary, and above all—fun.

Here's a still from yesterday.

Congratulations! Not a small feat! Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

That's great, Ritchie Stonian Johnston! Congratulations! Is this a Stage 32 Success Story (did you meet Andy Blithe on Stage 32, did you use the coverage service for your script, etc.)?

Ritchie Stonian Johnston

Thanks Maurice Vaughan, I had gotten some feedback from the screenplay on Stage 32, but it was actually me that introduced Andy to Stage 32, we've know each other for a while meeting through the indie production of the Last Day in 2013. The screenplay was the winner of the Wiki Screenplay award back in November 2024, it also has placed in the Santa Barbara Screenplay awards as a quarter finalist and it was a semi-finalist in The Page turner top 15 earlier this year. I did pitch it through the pitch sessions and got some great feedback from that, which helped lock in that final bit of tone when I rewrote it for shooting.
