SIMPLY PUT, MATT'S PURPOSE IS TO HELP ADVANCE THE STORY, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR BIG THE ROLE. HE LOOKS FOR ORIGINAL AND MEANINGFUL STORIES, IS OBSESSIVE IN PREPARATION AND FEARLESS IN PERFORMANCE.
Matt Harvey’s recent lead roles in dramatic films Paranoia, Frankie’s Place and Kept in The Dark as well as theatre performances as Collins in Lakeboat by David Mamet and as Troy Whitworth in Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth have been fearless, memorable and exciting.
Matt has studied Stanislavski’s Method, Meisner Technique as well as being familiar with Strasberg and Uta Hagen’s work. He continues classes at Beverly Hills Playhouse in San Francisco consisting of scene study and theatre training. He’s a firm believer in consistent development, so much so that when not in class or preparing for a scene or role, he’s undertaking acting exercises in his own time.
Often cast as complex and unhinged characters, Matt likes to undertake a great deal of preparation, however when called upon his natural character can quickly step into a role bringing it to life with decisiveness. In Paranoia, Matt was cast as a disturbed loner that was slowly losing his mind in a motel room. In the film Kept in The Dark, Matt played a psychotherapist with a dark agenda for his patients.
Matt grew up in a small working class town in the North of England and moved to California in 2015 with his wife and Boston Terrier imaginatively named Boston. Living in America has sharpened his strong ability to play an American accent with precision which compliments a range of British regional accents. Gaining a diploma in TV & Film production in the UK, Matt is an able part of a community of filmmakers in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has traveled extensively to European cities, Asia as well as South and North America and he continues to do so believing that life experience, ‘the good and the bad’, widens the mind, perspective and his acting abilities.
Unique traits: Accents - American (incl. New York, Boston, Deep-South), Australian, English (incl. London-cockney, Liverpool, Northern), Irish, Scottish, Welsh.
