After 9/11, Jesse Stone wanted to do something for the inner city youth. They had not been directly impacted by a traumatic global event, but were already enduring many untold struggles closer to home. She chose kayaking as her medium for teaching a variety of life skills that are hard to come by for anyone, but particularly for these young people who have a range of difficult situations. Through embracing the challenges they meet on the water they learn about self-sufficiency, teamwork, and most importantly, how to pick themselves up when times get hard.
