Fear sells: Pete Marzilli at TEDxJupiter

FEAR SELLS was featured as the closing presentation at the TEDxJupiter conference in November 2013. Written by Donna Carbone and performed by Peter Marzilli, the play is a commentary on the use of fear as a marketing tool. Fear Sells, which can be performed as a one-man or two-man show. Told by down-on-their luck actors through a series of auditions for increasingly violent roles and subsequent conversations with their agent, the play asks the audience to consider whether society’s actions influence the movies being made or whether the prevalence of fear based films and Madison Avenue marketing campaigns have led to a society afraid to live life to the fullest. The actors change characters for each audition by making modest adjustments to their attire, demeanor and voice. The creativity of the actors and the use of minor props - a cigarette, a toothpick, a gun, etc. - bring each scenario to life. The entire play takes place on a bare stage.
