Emigrant Fairy Tale (ploHorošo)

Bilingual Russian-Serbian play about emigration, lost homes, inner "monsters" we carry, and the painful yet liberating path to self-acceptance. In Emigrant Fairy Tale (ploHorošo), fairy-tale structure meets raw contemporary reality: characters leave everything behind, cross borders both literal and emotional, confront their own shadows, and search for a new kind of belonging. The text deliberately blends Russian and Serbian — words, phrases, entire monologues switch languages mid-sentence — with subtitles ensuring everyone follows. What emerges is shared laughter at absurd situations, tears over universal losses, and moments of unexpected tenderness that bridge two cultures in one evening. Directed in an intimate chamber style with ironic melancholy and psychological depth, the production creates a rare space where post-2022 Russian émigrés and local Serbs recognize each other’s pain and hope. Premiered in late 2024 in Belgrade, it became a small but powerful point of connection in a divided time. One stage, two languages, many stories. Come see how monsters can become allies, and how a new home is built not from walls, but from shared vulnerability.
