Route 66 remains a symbol of freedom, independence and the road to a better life. Who knows this truth better than the roads motel owners -- the people who have pursued their own ambitions by constructing or resurrecting these iconic structures, operating them and serving travelers up and down the road for over a century. The Motels of Route 66 documentary will capture the spirit of these motels, both the thriving and the forgotten. Compiling the visual and narrative stories, from the owners, to the architecture, to the travelers and the road itself. The film will incorporate a month long journey down the mother road by the films documentary crew alongside integrated footage from select motel owners own day in the life's and travelers from around the world's submissions. The project will culminate in a documentary film and book both rich in verbal histories, anecdotes and travelogues combined with compelling visuals from yesterday and today of these mid-century masterpieces.
