Whether you are actively writing, or one of those people who are always planning to start, one thing's for sure- you need a location. Can you write at home, work, or anywhere opportunity lends itself? Yes, but often those places are filled with distractions that strangle the imagination and breed procrastination. If you are looking for a serene location, with likeminded creatives, join Assistant Organizer Stephen Lombardo at the SJS monthly Writers Refuge at the McCowan Memorial Library from 6:45-8:30pm.

Fall Filmmaker's Meetup

The change in the weather is allowing more films to be done in better conditions. Most Halloween themed projects are hurrying to completion, and holiday themed shows are getting ready to start. It is a good time to be involved in the season's film offerings.I have been interacting with several new faces coming into the film community in our area. Please be understanding and assist some of these hardworking newbies. They are looking at us, as we looked at the seasoned actors when we began. They deserve to be able to show us what they have to offer. You may be surprised to see what a little encouragement will do for them and you. We need to stress the need for networking in this industry. I can remember when people came into our group to meet up with our members, and really "took off" into all sorts of projects. Remember when you were helped by other actors? I have three requests to use my land for filming some upcoming projects. Please let me know which week you will be filming so we can work out times for you. I can meet with you for scouting sets if you give me notice ahead of time. Bring me the script at this meetup and we can set up times or email or PM my fb account to schedule shoots planned before the meeting. Hope to see you guys at the meetup and always bring a friend.

Connecting for Projects

I am visiting LA October 12-15 to attend Film Crash in West LA to pick up a screenwriting award the morning of the 13th. I'd like to spend some of the time while there meeting people. I am on the cusp of breaking through, most likely with an Off-Broadway play production. I have scripts for feature and short films, a sitcom, and theater that have been through coverage by industry professionals and accumulated more than a dozen laurels since 2016. I also have had many novels, short fiction, essays, poetry, photo art, and plays published by a variety of small publishers in reviews, anthologies, and e-zines in the last three years. If anyone wants to meet and discuss my projects or your projects the afternoon of October 14, please contact me. Otherwise, I will probably spend the day writing or coloring.

SJ Screenwriters Movie Meetup: A Star Is Born

Please join us on Friday October 5th for the 7pm showing of A Star is Born at the AMC Deptford 8 in Deptford, NJ. After the movie, we will discuss the film over food and drinks at a nearby restaurant. Please note, this theater has reserved seating and often sells out in advance. Please try to purchase your tickets online as soon as possible. This is a great opportunity to network and get to know your fellow writers and filmmakers in a fun and casual setting. Additionally, it is common practice among industry pros to see movies in the theater on opening weekends to gauge the audience's reaction. After the movie we will spend time evaluating the storyline and the movie's overall success, or lack there of. Everyone is welcome, including member's guests. Look for us in the lobby after the movie ends.
