SJS Craft Lecture: State of the Industry
Please join us on Tuesday July 24th from 7-9pm at the McCowan Memorial Library in Pitman, NJ. From 7:00-7:30pm, you can network with your fellow screenwriters and filmmakers. Then at 7:30pm, the craft lecture will begin on the State of the Industry. Fresh off of Cannes in May and the Produced By Conference in June, Lisa will discuss the current trends and highlights of the seminars she attended. Discover where the industry is now and where it's eye is for the future, so you can craft and pitch the most marketable concepts in both film and television. After the lecture there will be time for Q&A.
The HOT July meetup....
Everyone is all abuzz about the new Video- On- Demand (VOD) channel introduced by our own James Hammer. He is looking for films, series, and any material to fill 720 hours per month of content. This would be a good tome to dust off some of the many projects in your studios gathering dust and submit them to this Netflix type platform. There is also a film contest in conjunction with the kick off of this opportunity for the film community of DFW and other communities all over. We hope to see James at our meetup to speak to us in depth on the exciting venture for the Independent filmmakers in our area. We will be meeting at 6:00pm at Dickey's BBQ in the back meeting room. SJS Movie Meetup: Jurassic World
Please join us on Friday June 22nd for the evening showing (Time TBA) of Jurassic World at the AMC Deptford 8 in Deptford, NJ. After the movie, we will discuss the film over food and drinks at a nearby restaurant. Please note, this theater has reserved seating and often sells out in advance. Please try to purchase your tickets online as soon as possible. This is a great opportunity to network and get to know your fellow writers and filmmakers in a fun and casual setting. Additionally, it is common practice among industry pros to see movies in the theater on opening weekends to gauge the audience's reaction. After the movie we will spend time evaluating the storyline and the movie's overall success, or lack there of. Everyone is welcome, including member's guests. Look for us in the lobby after the movie ends.
June 13th Meetup 2018
This meetup is going to be a treat. We have some of the recent award winners who may be in attendance and some new members with projects that may be selecting casts and crews for some projects. We have moved back to the Dickey's BBQ Pit across from the old meeting place (Rios). We are putting together a film team to draw on for some upcoming projects, also. They are now serving beer inside Dickey's. Our manager guest is Erica and she is excited to meet us. Let's treat her right.

West Side L.A. Writers Circle
Hello all. I'm a writer on the west side of Los Angeles looking for a few fellow screenwriters on this side of the 405 to get together with once a week for social and career support purposes. We all know that writing can be a bit of an isolating endeavor. I'm looking for 4 or 5 up-and-coming screenwriters — feature, television, short films or the web — who have written more than one script and who would like to get together regularly. I'm picturing a few hours a week to sit at various coffee shops or bars (whichever the group prefers) and talk socially about our week both personally and professionally. Professionally, we would of course take turns submitting things for review and discussion but also we would discuss submission and networking strategies, both successful and not, and likely the industry in general. Whatever we find pertinent or happen to wind up on after a series of amusing tangents. Also, knowing writers, I'm betting discussions concerning movies, television and favorite books would find their way into our conversations as well. Personally, just a weekly checking in and catching up. A nice — and hopefully lasting — social circle to be a part of as we live our lives here in Los Angeles. Just much closer to the beach than all those fools living east of the freeway. If you're interested, add me to your network and message me here at Stage32. We can exchange email addresses and talk.
