Whether you are actively writing, or one of those people who are always planning to start, one thing's for sure- you need a location. Can you write at home, work, or anywhere opportunity lends itself? Yes, but often those places are filled with distractions that strangle the imagination and breed procrastination. If you are looking for a serene location, with likeminded creatives, join Assistant Organizer Stephen Lombardo at the SJS monthly Writers Refuge at the McCowan Memorial Library from 6:30-8:30pm.
Please join us on Monday February 26th from 7-9pm at the McCowan Memorial Library in Pitman, NJ. From 7:00-7:30pm, you can network with your fellow screenwriters and filmmakers. Then at 7:30pm, the craft lecture will begin on Creating an Outline for a Feature Film. After you have decided on a concept and crafted a logline, how do you develop the structure for your film? If you aspire to work professionally as a screenwriter in Hollywood, you will be expected to create outlines on a regular basis. Join us and learn the ins and outs of creating a great outline. After the lecture there will be time for Q&A.
Please join us on Saturday February 17th for the 7:30pm showing of Black Panther at the AMC Deptford 8 in Deptford, NJ. After the movie, we will discuss the film over food and drinks at a nearby restaurant. Please note, this theater has reserved seating and often sells out in advance. Please try to purchase your tickets online as soon as possible. This is a great opportunity to network and get to know your fellow writers and filmmakers in a fun and casual setting. Additionally, it is common practice among industry pros to see movies in the theater on opening weekends to gauge the audience's reaction. After the movie we will spend time evaluating the storyline and the movie's overall success, or lack there of. Everyone is welcome, including member's guests. Look for us in the lobby after the movie ends.
It's about time again to meetup with all our peeps. This is the second meetup for 2018. Lots of buzz going on during the Pilot season. I've posted a couple of tv shows casting for parts. Some are speaking roles. All it takes is one show to launch your career. Some of you are good enough right now to do a weekly show. Some of us need a little more seasoning. If you can get cast as background in a Sag- Aftra show and stay with it for a few days, that can authorize you apply for a Sag membership. If you are ready to go pro, then you can get involved in the network shows and large budget movies. Make your mamas proud. Some area productions from inside our group are starting up now, and may need some support people during filming. If you need practice or to get your feet wet, show up at the meeting as some of the directors and producers may show up to enlist your aid. Hope to see you guys there. Please RSVP me on here or facebook so I'll know to set a place for you and a friend. We're meeting the day before Valentines, so don't forget your Valentine the next day. Just FYI....

Hello, screenwriters! This San Francisco-based screenwriter is finally heading down to L.A. to attend a class w/ Pilar Alessandra of On the Page, so I thought it'd be great to meet up with other writers, script consultants etc. working in/looking to break into the industry.Come on out and meet your fellow writers... Or at the very least, treat yourself to a piece of pie. ; ) Hope the day, time and place will work for everyone... Happy writing for now and looking forward to meeting you all! : )
Time to kick off the year with some face time with my friends. We are meeting at our old stomping grounds The Rio Mambo restaurant on E. Lamar Blvd in Arlington, Tx. I posted the time at 6:00 pm so if anyone gets there earlier to enjoy dinner. If you can be there later, that is fine with me. One writer shows up right before 10pm to visit. The new manager says we are very welcome and he looks forward to meeting us. There are so many things about to happen with the new pilots coming out, and the new seasons of shows coming up. Bring your scripts and ideas to toss around with the crowd. I am again offering the first drink to you on me. That will loosen up the gossip on what is coming up. Sounds like at least two films will need cast and crew hopefully from our group. Please let me know on Facebook or on this site if you plan on coming. That way we will have enough waitstaff and seats reserved for all of us. Hope I see you there.
