THE RUBBLE KING
By Mark LaFever

GENRE: Film-noir, Historical, Thriller
LOGLINE: Amid the bombed-out ruins of 1947 Berlin, a serial killer is on the loose and targeting children.  In the ungoverned chaos of a world of rubble, it’s up to American correspondent Georgette Avery – and her reluctant ally, a former German Kriminalpolizei detective – to stop the killings.

SYNOPSIS:

Amid the bombed-out ruins of 1947 Berlin, a serial killer is on the loose. Calling himself the Geröllkönig – the Rubble King – in a sick parody of Goethe’s classic horror poem, Der Erlkönig, the killer strikes first on Halloween...specifically targeting children for one gruesome abduction and murder after another. With local authorities vanquished and nonexistent, and the occupying Allied armies increasingly divided by growing Cold War rivalries, it’s up to American correspondent Georgette Avery – and her reluctant ally, drunken, one-legged former Kriminalpolizei detective Max Kiefer – to stop the killings.

Hey Hans - I first heard the story of the "Earl King" or Erlkönig when I was a little kid. Found it pretty chilling at the time. As far as film-noir goes, I really like THE THIRD MAN and BLAST OF SILENCE, and for "neo-noir", TAXI DRIVER and CHINATOWN. I think THE THIRD MAN probably influenced some of THE RUBBLE KING, but the "Berlin Noir" series of novels by Phillip Kerr probably did too.
