A cantankerous spitball pitcher returns from the grave to confront his great-grandson, a grieving journalist trespassing through the ball player’s painful past. If either is to heal, it must happen with the help of the other.
Spider Baum was a hall of fame spitball pitcher in the Pacific Coast league in the early 1900s. He was also my great-grandfather. Spider never knew the circumstances of his son’s death in World War II, but hidden in the past, I’ve discovered a classified military document that reveals Jackie’s unfortunate fate. Overwhelmed by these facts, I felt an obligation to tell Spider exactly how his son died. That’s why I wrote my screenplay.
