About Owen

My name is Owen A Smith I am an experienced Director of Photography, / Cinematographer and a television lighting cameraman. With ten plus years of experience. In addition to my camera and electrical dept experience I am also a script writer Director and Producer I am a full member of the Guild of Television Cameramen and a fully accredited Member of the Directors Guild of Great Britain.

Unique traits: Owen has a unique perspective on life and a number of life experiences that give him such an unusual and unique perspective. After his natural mother died when he was just 9 days old Owen"s father privately fostered Owen into an affluent white middle classed academic family who brought Owen up in the leafy green and wealthy stockbroker belt just outside of greater London in the suburbs of Surrey in the Home Counties. Owen had a priverlladged upbringing and saw life from a different perspective than one might expect. Owen gained a scholarship to Epsom School of Art & Design, now known as The University of Creative Arts (UCA) Epsom. After leaving uni he went on to work in the world of advertising working for one of the top London West End creative studio called Adam B Studios and Colour Services. Starting as a runner he worked his way up to a black and white photography processor and technician before going on to work in a more creative role as a studio assistant where he would create the shots requested by the advertising agencies the studio company worked with. Owen would setup and light the shots used for glossy magazines and national billboard advertising campaigns for blue chip companies and top advertising agency's such as McCann Erickson, Saatchi and Saartchi, Obgalvys and she'll oil etc etc. Owen later became an account executive for a west London advertising agency and worked his way up to becoming a company director after a brief period of moving to New York to live with his natural father whilst living in New York Owen states that the experience opened many new doors for him as this was where he learnt to sell after gaining some of the best sales training working in a busy sales company selling Business to Business at executive level to companies in Manhattan which has stood him in good stead throughout his life and sees selling as an important life skill. In the mid 1980's Owen has a complete change of career and for a number of years moved away from the advertising media industry and moved to the world of civil aviation. Starting at the bottom working on the Ramp as a Ramp Agent Owen worked his way up to working in Aircraft Engineering and was responsible for the movement of aircraft on the ground. His role was to to tow aircraft up to and including Boeing 747's from the terminal to remote parking stands and aircraft hangars for maintenance before he managed to obtain a job and train with Dan Air Plc as technical aircrew for Dan Air service as flight crew. The next few years Owen was employed as professional flight crew as a Flight Loadmaster & Engineering Officer (Flight Mechanic) and third in command of a commercial cargo or freighter aircraft responsible for the calculation of the aircrafts weight and balance and the fuel load and was generally in charge of the commercial operation of the flight. Along with the inflight technical reports and voyage reports. Owen went on to serve in the Royal Air Force as a Commissioned officer reaching the rank of Flight Lieutenant and and became a flying instructor and later an RAF contingent commander. Enthusiastic about aviation and after the airline was taken over and he and many others were laid off or made redundant Owen returned to working in a creative environment again studying Sound engineering and music technology he became interested in working in music Owen now plays guitar to a professional level as well as double bass, drums and has recorded on a number of albums. His enthusiasm for music allowed him to go on to build several professional recording studios which he ran and engineered in before starting his own Record label Red Skin Records Ltd. singing some sixty bands and artists to the record label. Through buying the rights to broadcast his own music channels of Brighton based Play TV later to be renamed as Something TV Owen moved back into the world of Media and set up a media production department within the record label. Later to become a dedicated media production house based at Elstree Film Studios now Red Skin Media Ltd "London" until July 2015 setting up a new company called Movielux Ltd in August 2015 Today Owen is the Principle at MovieLux Ltd. which is in principle a re branding of Red Skin Media bringing with him many crew and production equipment cameras lighting grip equipment
