Screenwriting : Ideas for a story by Jordan Razo

Honestly, neither appeal to me because they're too abstract. For me, something "juicy" involves characters, not concepts.

Also neither: People with problems, not sermons (bit o irony there).

As already said.

To what End? For what universal good BOX OFFICE reason is your hero MOTIVATED, against all odds, to go forth and right the wrong? I offer this: Humans are driven to defend their freedoms, to fight every form of tyranny, in every society across time, to KICK ASS, stand their ground, give up their lives , changing things for the better, NO MATTER the forces against them, IF , driven by their PASSION, THEIR TRUTH, their love! And that goes for writers.

I like the first one, but hey...it'll depend on your execution.

As far as dystopia goes, we have the likes of Metropolis, 1984, Brazil, Gattaca, Children Of Men, recently Snowpiercer or How I Live Now (recommended) or A Scanner Darkly, quite the adaptation of Philip K.Dick material don't you think? Or a little movie called Blade Runner, not really the most optimistic, story wise but still... Dystopian material is clearly not about destroying the world, it's about potential, sinister outcomes and how to find ways to prevent them to become real. Well, that's how I approach it. About the story idea. It's more a theme than anything else. Unfortunately I think religious themes are loaded right now. It's kind of too hot in a sense. We're already living some form of "intellectual" crusades. If you exaggerate some of those religious behaviors, you could try to write a comedy. Your call.

Your protagonist is the story... and like Jenny says, it comes down to the writing. The dystopia idea - does it have a hero/anti-hero too? - otherwise it's a documentary.

Write a story, not an agenda. no one cares about writers agendas.
