Introduce Yourself : Nicola Lindsay by Nicola Lindsay

Nicola Lindsay

Hi there. My name is Nicola Lindsay. I'm English but have been living in Ireland for many years. After training as a nurse, I started my relationship with the film world as a twenty-one year old, when I moved to Dublin. I joined Irish Actors' Equity and was an extra in films like The Blue Max, Barry Lyndon and Zardoz. Those titles will confirm that I am no spring chicken! I then lived in Africa (Lagos) for five years, where I sang in a church choir and in a madrigal group and played the flute in a chamber orchestra. I also started to act seriously while I was out there with a semi-professional group called The Festival Players. On returning to Dublin, I continued to act and started to write. I approached an Irish publisher with a collection of my poetry and a children's book, which they published. I then moved to Poolbeg Press in Dublin and they published five of my novels. All of my work - or most of it - is available on Amazon Kindle Books. I joined a marvellous outfit called The Attic Studio, which is a group of actors, directors, writers and producers who meet up every Tuesday evening in Filmbase in Dublin. I have had several of my short screen plays read there and also some short-shorts. I have written a full length feature, based on one of my books and also a Treatment for my first novel, Diving through Clouds. I feel they both need work and I intend to try and improve them in the coming months. Cancer put a stop to my gallop for a couple of years but I am now getting back on my feet - literally, with some line dancing! I also do voice-over work for the Piehole.ie agency and with my theatrical agent, Ann Curtis in Dublin. I'm not sure how many of Stage 32 members come from Ireland but it's lovely to be part of a global creative community.

So great to have you in this community, Nicola! There is actually a pretty big community in Ireland, Dublin especially. You can go up to the connect section and search for people by location. https://www.stage32.com/people You can also start a meetup near you (I had one in Dublin while I was over there) https://www.stage32.com/lounge/stage_32_meetups. I also recommend connecting with Eion O'Sullivan. He wrote our guest blog this week (https://www.stage32.com/blog/The-Long-And-Short-Of-Getting-Your-Work-Made) and is a filmmaker in Dublin. CJ Walley is also a great connection to have, he's over in the UK. https://www.stage32.com/profile/175728/cj-walley All the best to you as you continue your creative journey and next time I'm over in Ireland I'll make sure to come meet you in person :)
