Screenwriting : Queries, et al by Matthew Tolbert

Queries, et al

What successes have you had in getting your script in front of a manager or agent? Query emails? Letters? Faxes? Query carrier pigeons? Web sites? Paying for email blasts? Contests? Sold your soul? I'm new to S32. Thanks for your responses.

Hey Matthew, the Happy Writers actually does just that. You can submit written pitches or do online pitches with executives. You can even get coaching to help you pitch to the best of your ability. To check out more, go up to the top menu bar and click on Happy Writers. Best of luck!

Don't sell your soul. Lease it. It's been a few years since I've queried. I started when snail-mail was still the preferred method and I only got one request to read either of the scripts I was querying. Cold-calling isn't fun, but as Dan can attest, it may be the best route. If you can't get your script(s) into the hands of industry professionals who will pass your script on to other industry professionals, you have no choice but to reach out blindly. Winning a contest or two before querying never hurts… And as Shannon mentioned, that Happy Writers service here at Stage 32 may be a good opportunity. Good luck!
