Introduce Yourself : Thought I would stop in ... by Irene Santiago

Thought I would stop in ...

What's on my mind? Networking and doing it the right way. I know in the biz it's important but it is equally important to do it right. I have shied away from networking because I am thinking I am bothering someone or just that whole ritual of approaching someone at a mixer is kind of awkward. Suggestions on contacting in person and online? Thanks and Happy Friday.

Thank you so much Kathryn. That is wise advice yet so simple. I am happy to be checking things out on Stage 32. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome Irene!!!

Hey, Irene, I was same when it came to networking; a new writer, with no connections and nowhere to turn. However, I must second Kathryn's post about Stage 32 being the right place. It's not about getting as many connections as possible but knowing the right people, either in your area or otherwise, and having a meaningful connection without the awkward social setting is great fun, great experience and, more over, great for potential business. Meet like-minded people and know that most people on here are here for the same thing as you. Best of luck with your Stage 32 networking, hope it is fun and fruitful :-)

Thank you Ross for the advice & kind welcome. I am grateful for forums like this. It's like the question you always wanted to know but afraid to ask.

Anyssa Iwamoto

Thank you Irene, for asking that question. I was wondering the same thing. I just joined Stage 32 and this seems to be an amazing and friendly networking site.

Irene Santiago

Hi Anyssa! Right? Great place and friendly too. Very progressive.

Irene, I am open to meeting newcomers. If they become PESTS, I'll deal with it. The only approaches I dislike are from those who want to connect -- then badger me to do something (read a logline, look at their script, "like" them on Facebook, go to their web site, etc.) or people who don't even know me and try to sell me on their seminar or book, etc. I'm a native New Yorker; I am not easily intimidated. :-D
